Benchmarks turn range bound; metal shares extent gains for 5th day

The headline equity benchmarks traded in a narrow range with substantial gains in mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 23,300 level after hitting the day's low of 23,170.65 in the morning trade. Metal shares witnessed buying demand for the fifth consecutive trading session. At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rallied 528.48 points or 0.69% to 77,147.81. The Nifty 50 index added 124.45 points or 0.54% to 23,327.65. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.64% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.80%. The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,470 shares rose and 1,532 shares fell. A total of 172 shares were unchanged. Economy: India's foreign exchange (forex) reserves declined $8.714 billion to $625.871 billion in the week ended January 10, according to the latest RBI data. For the week ended January 10, foreign currency assets, a major component of the reserves, decreased by $9.469 billion to $536.011 billion, the data released on Friday showed. Gold reserves increased by $792 million to $67.883 billion during the week. The special drawing rights (SDRs) were down by $33 million to $17.781 billion, the RBI said. India's reserve position with the IMF was down by $4 million at $4.195 billion in the reporting week, the apex bank data showed. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Metal index gained 1.21% to 8,624.60. The index jumped 8.46% in five consecutive trading sessions. National Aluminium Company (up 2.99%), Welspun Corp (up 2.5%), APL Apollo Tubes (up 2.1%), Vedanta (up 1.93%), Hindustan Zinc (up 1.54%), Adani Enterprises (up 1.52%), Jindal Steel & Power (up 1.40%), NMDC (up 1.31%), JSW Steel (up 0.92%) and Steel Authority of India (up 0.82%) advanced. Numbers to Track: The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper was up 1.54% to 6.878 as compared with previous close 6.774. In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 86.5525, compared with its close of 86.6025 during the previous trading session. MCX Gold futures for 5 February 2025 settlement shed 0.07% to Rs 78,967. The US Dollar index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was down 0.23% to 109.10. The United States 10-year bond yield gained 0.52% to 4.635. In the commodities market, Brent crude for March 2025 settlement lost 34 cents or 0.42% to $80.45 a barrel. Stocks in Spotlight: Can Fin Homes advanced 2.69% after the company reported 6% rise in standalone net profit to Rs 212.12 crore on a 9.3% increase in total income to Rs 986.15 crore in Q3 FY25 as compared with Q3 FY24. Can Fin Homes edges higher after decent Q3 performance

Net interest income (NII) for the period under review was Rs 345 crore, up 4.9% YoY. Operating profit in the third quarter rose by _ % to Rs 291 crore from Rs 287 crore posted in the same period last year. ECL provision in Q3 FY25 was Rs 22 crore, down _ % YoY. Profit before tax in Q3 FY25 stood at Rs 269.12 crore, up by 5.3% from Rs 255.69 crore in Q3 FY24. Loan disbursements recorded during Q3FY25 added up to Rs 1,879 crore as against Rs 1879 crore during Q3 FY24, registering a flat performance. Disbursements during the quarter have clocked a negative growth of (21)% sequentially over the disbursements attained during Q2 FY25, mainly on account of issue pertaining to registration in Karnataka following the introduction of E-khata requirement. The loan portfolio as at December 2024, stood at Rs 37,155 crore as against Rs 34,053 crore in the corresponding previous period, recording an increase of 9%. Housing loans accounted for 77% of the loan book and non-housing loans (including CRE) accounted for the remaining 23%. On the asset quality front, the gross non-performing asset (GNPA) ratio was 0.92% as of 31 December 2024, compared to 0.88% as of 30 September 2024 and 0.91% as of 31 December 2023. The net non-performing assets (NNPA) ratio was 0.50% as of 31 December 2024, compared to 0.47% as of 30 September 2024 and 0.49% as of 31 December 2023. The liquidity coverage ratio as of 31 December 2024 stood at 167.17% as against the stipulated ratio of 85%. 'The documented undrawn bank lines stood at Rs 3,505.73 crore as of 31 December 2024 which, along with internal accruals will take care of business commitments for next 3 months,' the company said. Can Fin Homes climbs after Q2 PAT jumps 34% YoY

Profit before tax (PBT) was reported at Rs 274.09 crore in Q2 FY25, up 38.4% year-on-year. The spread decreased slightly from 2.61% in Q2FY24 to 2.56% in Q2FY25, while the net interest margin decreased from 3.80% in Q2FY24 to 3.75% in Q2FY25. The return on assets (ROA) increased from 1.86% in Q2FY24 to 2.29% in Q2FY25, and the return on equity (ROE) increased from 15.96% in Q2FY24 to 17.99% in Q2FY25. The debt-to-equity (D/E) ratio decreased from 7.73 in Q2FY24 to 7.19 in Q2FY25. The loan portfolio as at September 2024, stood at Rs 36591 crore as against Rs 33359 crore in the corresponding previous period, witnessing an increase of 10%. The firm said that 77% of the Loan book comprises of Housing Loan and 23% is made up of Non-Housing Loans (including CRE). Loan disbursements registered during Q2FY25 is Rs 2381 crore as against Rs 2019 crore in Q2FY24, registering a growth of 18%. Disbursements have clocked a 28% growth sequentially over the disbursements in Q1FY25. The Liquidity Coverage Ratio as of September 30, 2024 stood at 166.06% as against the stipulated Ratio of 70%. The documented undrawn Bank lines stood at Rs. 5440.77 crores as of September 30, 2024 which, along with internal accruals will take care of business commitments for next 3 months. The company's deposit portfolio stood at Rs 187 crore. It is having a Pan-India presence with 219 branches/offices spanning 21 states / union territories.
